The Cyclones scored 24 points in the second half and the EHS defense pitched a shutout to take a 38-0 victory over Knox Carter in the first round of the TSSAA Class 4A Playoffs inside Citizens Bank Stadium.
With the win, Elizabethton advanced and will take on Anderson County in second-round action on the road next week.
The Cyclones took control on the opening drive of the game.
Jeriah Griffin scored on a five-yard run for the first touchdown of the night – a score that was set up by a 34-yard pass from Rhett Slagle to Luke Whaley.
EHS pushed the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter as Zeth Mullins scored on a four-yard run. The Mullins touchdown was set up by a 42-yard pass from Slagle to Eli Blevins.
Elizabethton led 14-0 at the half.
After the Elizabethton defense picked up where they left off to open the third quarter, Griffin scored on a run while Mullins scored on a nine-yard touchdown run.
Mullins stuck again with a 57-yard score to push the lead to 35-0 in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
From there, it was all EHS.
Mullins finished with three carries for 113 yards and three touchdowns. He also added two interceptions.
Griffin finished with 21 carries for 91 yards, while Whaley had 119 receiving yards. Blevins added 72 receiving yards.
The Elizabethton defense forced Carter off the field on four fourth-down attempts and nabbed four interceptions.
