Elizabethton, Hampton rise again in poll

The Elizabethton and Hampton football teams continued to rise in the AP prep football polls.

The Cyclones jumped one spot in the Class 3A poll to No. 6. Elizabethton, who dispatched Daniel Boone 21-7 on Friday night, recorded 98 points, and are 13 points behind No. 5 and region foe Pigeon Forge. The Cyclones are 2-1 on the year.

CPA claimed 17 first place votes to remain at No. 1, while Alcoa and CAK held down No. 2 and No. 3.

Elizabethton travels to Unicoi County this Friday night.

In Class 2A, the Bulldogs also moved up a spot to No. 6 after being off in Week 4. Hampton tallied 95 points with one first-place vote. The Bulldogs were 21 points behind No. 5 Adamsville, and 31 points ahead of region foe and No. 7 Sullivan North.  Hampton is 3-0 on the year.

Marion County received 17 first-place votes to claim the top spot, while Boyd Buchanan was No. 2. Trezevant received the other first-place vote to land at the No. 3 position.

Hampton travels to Gatlinburg-Pittman for an important region game on Friday night.

Other local teams in the poll included Science Hill (No. 4 in 6A), Dobyns-Bennett (No. 8 in 6A) and Greeneville (No. 2 in 4A).
