In a Carter County Three Rivers clash, Elizabethton had the upper hand.

The Lady Cyclones held off Happy Valley for a hard-fought 35-27 victory while the Cyclones pulled away in the second half to take a 59-45 win over the homesteading Warriors.

In the girls’ game, it was a tight defensive battle from the onset.

The early going saw the teams shots before the Lady Warriors pushed out to a 15-8 lead.

EHS, however, answered with a run of their own to take a 17-16 advantage into the half.
Elizabethton got some breathing room in the third quarter with a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter with a 30-20 lead.

HV, however, battled back by limiting EHS opportunities and closed the gap, but the Lady Cyclones were able to hold on for the win in the closing stages.

Elizabethton’s Kaitlin Bailey finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. Kaylen Shell had eight points, while Morgan Headrick had four points.

Shalyn Whitson led HV with 15 points. Olivia Absher and Emily Lunceford had five points and four points, respectively.

In the boys’ game, neither team was able to get any breathing room in the early going.

Points were hard to come by early as neither team was able to get anything going offensively. Elizabethton was able to take a 22-21 lead at the half with a late basket.

The Cyclones, however, took control of the game with a 12-0 run to push the advantage to double-digits in the fourth. HV continued to battle but was unable to make a run of their own.

The trio of Parker Hughes, Donta Earnest, and Jake Roberts led Elizabethton with 12 points apiece. William Willocks and Nico Ashley had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Blake Young had a game-high 20 points to lead HV. Dylan Willis finished with 11 points for the Warriors.
