A thrilling game came to an ugly pause on Saturday afternoon.

The Elizabethton and Unicoi County District 1-3A Losers’ Bracket final was suspended in the bottom of the seventh due to a fight and players from both teams leaving the dugout.

At the time of the incident, Elizabethton was leading 11-9, while the Blue Devils had runners on third and first with one out.

After a lengthy delay, the decision was made to suspend the game.

In a Saturday night email, TSSAA Executive Direction Matthew Gillespie noted that there will not be a District 1-3A tournament game tomorrow and that the TSSAA continues to gather information and hope to have a decision made no later than Monday morning.

Tennessee High had previously clinched a spot in the District 1-3A Championship game as well as the Region 1-3A tournament.

Unicoi County opened the game by plating two runs in the home side of the first.

Elizabethton got things going in the top of the second as the Cyclones scored five runs in the inning and two more in the third to take a 7-2 lead.

Unicoi, however, battled back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up at 7-7.

The Cyclone offense got things going again in the top of the fifth as EHS scored four runs with two outs to take an 11-7 lead. Unicoi County got two runs back in the home side of the frame.

A quiet sixth inning set the stage for the tense seventh inning.

Peyton Johnson and Brilee Hurley had two hits a piece with Johnson adding two RBI.

Kaleb Hambrick, Hayden Nave, Steven Meadows, Jack Farris, and Brayden Buckles each had a hit for Elizabethton.
