Good evening! Hope you are staying warm on this frosty night.
We are less than 20 hours away from the scheduled start of Monday night’s district action, but Mother Nature may have another idea. If you have seen the forecast, you know what we are talking about. A night that is a complete wash, or a freeze out is more like, will throw a wrench into the schedule.
District 1-A, as reported by the Greeneville Sun’s Darren Reese, does have a contingency plan prepared. If they are not able to play both consolation games on Monday, the district will try to play all four games (both the consolation and championship games) on Tuesday. If Monday and Tuesday is a no go, the four games would shift to Wednesday.
It will be a wait-and-see mode for the District 1-AA tournament. The girls are slated to take center stage Monday with the consolation and championship games, while the boys take the stage on Tuesday. A decision on if the games are a go is expected by mid-morning on Monday.
The TSSAA has waived the two-game a night rule for this week as reported by the Knoxville Sentinel. According to the report, the TSSAA is also prepared to be flexible with Wednesday’s deadline to get the district tournaments completed. Region tournament action begins on Friday night on the girls’ side, while the boys are slated to begin region tournament action on Saturday night.
If the games are able to be played Monday night, Cloudland girls will take on North Greene at Daniel Boone in the District 1-A consolation game, while Happy Valley will face Unicoi County in the District 1-AA consolation game. Elizabethton is slated to take on Sullivan East in the District 1-AA championship game.
