Friday Round-up: Bulldogs Pull Away For Win, Lady ‘Landers Outlast Hampton; Unaka Splits At WG

Hampton 72, Cloudland 31
The Bulldogs pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back in the county rivalry clash.

After the teams traded shots throughout the first eight minutes, Hampton held a 20-16 lead. The Bulldogs, however, hit the gas and outscored CHS 20-7 in the second quarter to push the lead to 40-23.

It was all Hampton in the second half as they outscored CHS 32-8.

Chance Point and Tuff Robinson had 12 points apiece for Hampton, while Dylan Trivett scored 11 points. Hayden Campbell and Geno Carrico added nine points apiece.

Cloudland was paced by Nick Caraway’s 12 points, while Cooper Smith added 10 points.

Unaka 51, West Greene 39
The Rangers pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a win on Friday night.

After West Greene held slim advantages after the first quarter and at the half, Unaka edged ahead in the third to take a 31-29 advantage into the final quarter.

The Rangers took over by doubling up the Buffaloes in the final eight minutes as they outscored WG 20-10 to secure the win.

Austin Lambert had 14 points to pace Unaka, while Marcus Shomaker had 11 points. John Hardin and Mason Wilson added nine and eight points, respectively.

Girls
Cloudland 42, Hampton 28
The Lady ‘Landers took care of business in a defensive clash Friday night.

It was a battle from the opening tip as Cloudland held an 18-11 lead after a quarter of play. Points were hard to come by during the second quarter as the teams combined for 10 points, and Hampton was able to trim into the CHS lead.

Cloudland maintained a 22-17 halftime advantage.

The defenses continued to set the tone in the third quarter as the teams stayed within striking distance CHS held a 29-23 lead going to the fourth.

Cloudland, however, took control by holding the Lady Bulldogs to just five points in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Izabella Christman had 13 points to lead Cloudland. Regan Blair scored 12 points, while Ryan Turbyfill added 10 points.

Faye Carrico led Hampton as she scored eight points. Macy Henry added seven points.

West Greene 50, Unaka 30
The Lady Rangers came up short Friday night on the road.

West Greene took an 18-7 advantage after the first eight minutes and held a 12-point lead at the half.

Unaka kept battling but was unable to cut into the deficit in the second half.

Katlyn Dugger had seven points for Unaka. Emma Taylor added six points, while Alisha Harrell scored five points.

Morgan Brown led West Greene with 23 points.
