Unaka 61, Cloudland 46 (boys)
The Rangers took control in the third quarter and kept Cloudland at bay for a District 1-A win.
It was an even battle in the first half as the teams went to the locker room knotted at 26-26.
Unaka, however, started the third quarter hot as they outscored CHS 18-6 in the frame to take a double-digit lead into the final quarter.
Cloudland continued to battle in the fourth but was unable to make a rally.
Joseph Slagle had 18 points to lead Unaka, while Will Sexton scored 15 points. Gavin Seigfried had 12 points.
Cloudland was paced by Bentley Gilbert’s 16 points. Elijah Blair had nine points, and Caleb Sluder added eight points.
Happy Valley 56, Sullivan South 54 OT (boys)
The Warriors won a road thriller on Friday night.
James Murray hit a last-second shot to send HV to their first Three Rivers Conference win of the season.
Happy Valley erased a 12-9 deficit at the end of the first quarter by outscoring the Rebels 22-15 in the second quarter.
The second half saw the teams trade points as neither was able to get much separation and needed an extra four minutes to determine a winner.
Alex Lunceford had 19 points to lead the way for Happy Valley. Blake Young and Andrew Clawson had 14 points apiece.
Hampton 56, University High 45 (boys)
The Bulldogs outlasted University High for a crucial District 1-A win on Friday night.
Hampton slowly got some separation for the Jr. Bucs. HHS led 17-16 after a quarter of play and pushed the lead to 27-22 at the half.
The Bulldogs continued to keep UH at bay in the second half to take the win.
Morgan Lyons had 16 points to lead Hampton, while Conor Burleson had 13 points. Michael Harrison added 10 points.
Isaiah McCoury and Garrett Vines had nine and eight points, respectively.
Caleb Meredith had 20 points to lead University High.
Cloudland 63, Unaka 40 (girls)
A stingy second quarter and a strong offensive attack in the third quarter propelled Cloudland to a win at their county rivals.
After the first quarter saw Cloudland hold a slim 11-10 lead, the Lady ‘Landers limited Unaka to just three points in the second quarter to take a 23-13 advantage to the half.
CHS outscored Unaka 22-6 in the third quarter to take control.
The Lady Rangers, however, continued to battle, but was unable to trim into the Cloudland lead.
Jasmine Birchfield and Karah Fields led Cloudland with 16 points apiece, while Gracie Freeman scored eight points. Ella Benfield and Saharra McKinney scored six points apiece.
Lyndie Ramsey led Unaka with 28 points. Macy Ensor scored five points for UHS.
Hampton 65, University High 16 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs cruised to a win on Friday night.
Destini Milhorn had 12 points to pace Hampton. Sara Orr and Macy Henry added 11 points apiece.
Bre Davis also reached double-digits as she scored 10 points in the win.
Happy Valley 36, Sullivan South (girls)
The Lady Warriors picked up a thrilling win on the road Friday night.
HV jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first eight minutes but saw South close within one at the half.
The second half saw the teams trade shots with HV able to hold on late for the win.
Olivia Absher had 14 points to lead Happy Valley. Gabby Wood added 11 points, and Marcidia Moore had seven points.
