It was a picture perfect homecoming for the Bulldogs on Friday night as they dispatched Mountain East Conference foe North Greene 46-14.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 5-1 on the season.

Hampton’s defense held the Huskies to a three and out on the game’s opening drive, and then the offense went to work as Jerry Lunsford scored from 16 yards out. That would be the lone score until the opening minutes of the second quarter as Coby Jones scored on a 20-yard run for Hampton. Just before the half, the Bulldogs struck again as Dylan Ford was on the receiving end of a 30-yard pass from Joes to propel Hampton to a 20-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Jones scored his third touchdown of the night from two yards, and then hit Caleb West for a 73-yard touchdown pass. On the next North Greene drive, Ty Robinson picked up a fumble and ran it 58 yards for the score.

Lunsford capped off the Hampton scoring with a 38-yard scamper that was bookend by two North Greene touchdowns.

Offensively, Lunsford led the way with 131 yards on 11 carries, while Jones ran for 113 yards on nine carries. Jones was 8-for-10 passing for 145 yards through the air. Jacob Smith added 42 yards on four carries in the fourth quarter.

Quotable

“We played pretty well. We did a good job and ran the ball hard. This was the best job of blocking we did all year I think. They are not a bad football team, and we didn’t come close to having to punt and that’s impressive.”
–Hampton Head Coach Mike Lunsford

“We threw the ball well. We could have thrown it a lot more but in the second half we were trying to run the clock out. I thought Coby played a great game and thought we blocked the best we’ve blocked all year.”
-Hampton Head Coach Mike Lunsford

“It was a great win. Everyone on Homecoming is really excited and really hyped up to go. I just thank the Lord that we came out with a victory.”
-Hampton junior Coby Jones

“The receivers work hard everyday in practice. They run routes and they get their routes really crisped. The line gave me great protection tonight and the receivers ran great routes.”
-Hampton junior Coby Jones
