The District 1-A Championship saw Hampton deliver.

The Bulldogs pulled ahead in the second half and kept North Greene at bay to take a 51-42 victory and claim the District 1-A title.

Hampton will be the top seed from District 1-A in the upcoming Region 1-A tournament and will host Cosby in the quarterfinals on Saturday evening.

The teams traded runs in the early going.

Conor Burleson opened the scoring after the teams traded possessions to get things going, but Jasper Brand and the Huskies responded with a 10-2 run to take a 10-4 lead with 3:09 left in the frame.

Hampton’s Hayden Campbell stopped the run and sparked a quick Bulldog run that featured a Morgan Lyon shot and another Campbell bucket. That tied things up at 10-10 before NG added a shot in the closing seconds to take a 12-10 lead into the second quarter.

Lyons continued to spark Hampton in the second as four early points helped push the Bulldog lead to 18-14 midway through the quarter.

After North Greene used a quick 5-0 run to regain the lead, Cadon Buckles and Lyons hit back-to-back shots as HHS ended the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 27-21 halftime advantage.

Hampton kept the momentum in the second half.
After Jason Britton opened the scoring for the Huskies, Lyons and Buckles hit back-to-back shots that kicked off an 8-2 run to push the lead to 10 points.

Hampton answered another NG bucket with buckets from Burleson and Logan Whitehead to take a 39-29 advantage into the final quarter.

Lyons pushed the lead to 12 points to open the final stanza, but NG used an 11-4 run to close within five points with just over two minutes to play.

Hampton, however, took care of business in the closing minutes.

Burleson hit a jumper and then added a pair of free throws to extend the lead before Buckles added a jumper to secure the win.

Buckles finished with 13 points. Lyons and Burleson had 10 points apiece, while Whitehead added eight points.

Buckles was named the tournament MVP for his performance, while he was joined by Burleson, Lyons, and Burleson on the All-Tournament team.

Britton led North Greene with 14 points, while Brand had 12 points.
