Hampton was poised to send a message. The message was delivered loud and clear.

The Bulldogs ran away to a 102-69 victory over conference foe University High on Friday night in Hampton.

Hampton jumped out early as Stanley Valentine scored four early points to help the Bulldogs take a 12-0 lead before Dayshawn Hamilton drained a 3-pointer for the Bucs. Coby Jones, however, answered the UH shot with a three of his own and a jumper as Hampton pulled out to a 22-5 lead midway through the first quarter.

University High reeled off the next four points, but Valentine responded with a 6-0 run of his own to help power the Bulldogs to a 32-14 advantage heading into the first quarter.

The Bucs were on fire in the second quarter as they cut the gap to nine points after the Bulldogs had extended the lead to 20 points. However, a Cheyenne Camillo trey gave Hampton a 53-42 lead at the half.

Valentine opened the scoring in the second half as Hampton used back-to-back treys from Camillo to push the lead to 63=47/ From there, the Bulldogs kept University High at bay as they slowly added to the lead, including an 80-57 lead at the end of three.

After the Bucs scored the first bucket of the fourth quarter, the Hampton bench took full advantage of their opportunity with an 8-2 run. That set the stage for the Bulldogs to cross the 100-point mark in the closing minutes.

Valentine had 21 points, while Jones tallied 17 points on the night. Camillo finished with 16 points, including the 1,000th point of his career. Nathan Norris had 13 points. In all, Hampton had 11 players score in the game.
