The Warriors sent a statement to open 2016.

Happy Valley opened the 2016 season in a big way as they rolled to a 45-0 victory over Cloudland at Orr Field on Friday night.

The Warriors open the season 1-0 while Cloudland falls to 0-2.

Neither team was able to get anything going on the opening possessions, but the Warriors started in great field position after a bad snap on a punt. HV moved quickly as Sage Haun scored on a qb sneak to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.

After CHS was unable to continue a drive, Haun found an open Skylar Hyatt for a 53-yard touchdown. A safety ended the first quarter as the Warriors took a 16-0 advantage.

Dustun Sams opened the second quarter scoring for HV. Cloudland moved the ball to midfield on the ensuing possession on the legs of Preston Benfield and Noah Arnett. However, the drive stalled on fourth down.

Senior Brinkley Mull intercepted a Haun pass for the ‘Landers, but CHS was forced to punt. Haun found Dylan Street for a 31-yard swing pass to give HV a 31-0 lead at the half.

The ‘Landers continued to fight, but were unable to break into the end zone in the second half. HV added a 68-yard run by Sams along with a Haun to Sams touchdown pass to account for the final score.

Haun finished the game 4-of-5 passing with 138 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a score on the ground. Sams had 86 yards on five carries on the ground with two scores, while Street added 40 yards and a score to the HV cause. Austin Hicks tallied 30 yards in the game.

Benfield tallied 64 yards rushing to go with 33 yards passing. Arnett had 23 yards on the ground.

Both teams open conference play next Friday as Cloudland will host Oakdale and Happy Valley will travel to Sullivan North.
