Lady Bulldogs Run Past Happy Valley In District 1-2A Semifinals

Hampton was able to run past Happy Valley on Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs used a late first-half run to get momentum and stormed to a 64-39 victory over Happy Valley in the District 1-2A Semifinals at Daniel Boone High School.

With the win, Hampton advanced to the District 1-2A Championship game on Monday to take on South Greene and also secured a home Region 1-2A quarterfinal. The Lady Warriors will compete in the District 1-2A Consolation game on Monday against Chuckey-Doak and will travel for their Region 1-2A Quarterfinal.

Points were hard to come by on Thursday night.

The teams traded points to open the game as Ashlynn Sommers gave HV an early 4-2 lead. Macy Henry and Josie Zeoli hit shots for their respective squads as the first quarter ended in a 7-7 stalemate.

Bryanna Nickles and Marcida Moore hit back-to-back shots to regain the lead for HV as the Warriors opened the quarter on a 6-2 lead.

Faye Carrico and Piper Helle battled back with jumpers for Hampton. After Sommers hit a bucket to push HV to a 15-14 lead, Hampton started to take over.

Ella Estep and Brea Hicks jump-started a 13-2 over the final 2:48 of the half as the Lady Bulldogs pushed the lead to 27-17 at the half.

Hampton continued to have the momentum to open the third quarter as HHS scored the first eight points of the half.

Happy Valley kept fighting, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to extend the lead to 45-25 after three complete quarters.

The teams traded points throughout the fourth as Hampton was able to keep HV at bay.

Henry led Hampton with 14 points, while Taylor Berry and Helle had nine points apiece. Carrico finished with eight points.

Moore finished with 16 points to lead HV. Cayden Anderson scored seven points, while Nickles tallied six points.
