Lady Cyclones celebrate with win

It was a night of celebration for the Lady Cyclones, but they made sure to take care of business before the party began.

Elizabethton rolled to a 68-31 nonconference victory over Daniel Boone on Friday night in Treadway Gymnasium. The 2013-14 Lady Cyclones received their TSSAA State Championship rings following the game.

After the teams traded points to open the game, Megan Pietrowski sparked an 11-1 run for Elizabethton with a jumper and Kelci Marosites drained a 3-pointer during the stretch. That run allowed the Lady Cyclones to take a 13-5 advantage into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Kayla Marosites knocked down a trey to open the quarter as Elizabethton opened the stanza on an 8-0 run before Daniel Boone hit their first field goal of the period. Pietrowski answered the Lady Trailblazers bucket with two baskets of her own. Ka. Marosites scored six points the rest of the way while Pietrowski sent Elizabethton into the half with a 33-12 lead.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Cyclones as they pushed the lead to 25 points in the opening minutes of the frame. Elizabethton saw Emily Kinser and Melenda Perry got in the scoring act to help the Lady Cyclones extend the lead with a 16-4 run.

In the final quarter, Kiser opened the scoring with a trey, and Sarah Robinson added another jumper for Elizabethton as the Lady Cyclones cruised to wrap up the win.

Ka. Marosites led the way with 16 points, while Ke. Marosites and Pietrowski had 15 points apiece. Robinson tallied seven points in the game.

Daniel Boone saw Jaclyn Jenkins pace the way with nine points.
