Lady ‘Landers Outlast Hampton, Bulldogs Roll To Win

In a county rivalry, Cloudland and Hampton split a pair of games on Friday night in the first meeting of the season.

The Lady ‘Landers held off Hampton for a 62-54 victory, while the Bulldogs jumped out early to take a 78-22 win over Cloudland.

In the girls’ game, it was a battle from the onset.
Hampton scored the first four points of the game with points from Piper Helle and Taylor Berry.

Cloudland, however, answered as Karah Fields hit back-to-back buckets to propel a 10-0 Lady ‘Lander run.

That gave CHS a 10-4 advantage after a quarter of play.

The teams traded points in the second as Izabella Christman and Macy Henry hit early buckets for their respective teams.

After the Lady Bulldogs closed within four points midway through the quarter, Ryan Turbyfill hit back-to-back 3-pointers to extend the lead back out for Cloudland.

The teams traded points before the Lady ‘Landers took a 25-16 halftime lead.

Berry and Helle hit shots for Hampton to open the third quarter and close the gap to five points, but Cloudland once again countered with a run of their own reeling off six straight points.

The Lady ‘Landers pushed the advantage to 13 points before Hampton scored six straight to close the gap to 38-31 after three complete quarters.

In the fourth quarter, the back-and-forth battle continued.

The teams traded shots to open the quarter with Turbyfill and Madi McClain knocking down 3-pointers. Hampton closed the gap to three points with points from Linsey Jenkins and Berry at the midpoint of the quarter.

Berry and Christman traded shots as Hampton closed within two points, but Kendall Birchfield hit a trey for Cloudland to kickstart an 11-0 run.

Hampton continued to battle closing the gap to seven points late.

However, Cloudland was able to prevent a rally to secure the win.

Turbyfill led the way for 19 points for Cloudland, while Christman added 14 points. Birchfield added 11 points.

Benfield and Fields tallied nine and seven points, respectively.

McClain paced Hampton with 19 points, while Berry had 12 points. Jenkins added 11 points.

Helle and Henry had six and four points, respectively.

In the boys’ game, Hampton took control early.

Conor Burleson and Cadon Buckles hit early shots as the Bulldogs scored the first nine points of the game before Dylan Shell hit a bucket to get the ‘Landers on the board.

Hampton continued to stay hot to push the lead after a quarter of play.

The Bulldogs opened the second quarter on a 15-1 run to take full control of the game. Caleb Sluder sparked the CHS offense, but Hampton saw Morgan

Lyons convert an old-fashioned 3-point play to push the lead to 43-12 at the half.

In the second half, Hampton slowly extended the lead.

Buckles led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Logan Whitehead and Lyons had 12 points apiece.

Chance Point and Dalton Holtsclaw had nine and eight points, respectively.

Shell and Sluder led Cloudland with eight points apiece. Caden Clarke had four points for the ‘Lander effort.
