For the second time in three games, the Lady ‘Landers had to work overtime. However, it proved to not be a problem.

Kendall Mull scored 24 points to power the Lady ‘Landers to a 55-50 overtime victory over North Greene in the District 1-A Girls consolation game at Daniel Boone High School on Friday night.

Mull took control of the game early as she scored six straight points after Faith Russell opened the scoring with a trey. The Lady Huskies scored five straight points to close the gap, the teams traded points as CHS held a 18-12 advantage going to the second quarter.

Shian McKinney and Mull pushed the CHS lead to 10 points. However, the Lady Huskies battled back to pull within three points before Peyton Johnson and Lisa Ellis added Cloudland points to give the Lady ‘Landers a 31-25 lead at the half.

Defense took over the game in the third quarter as Katelyn Weems opened the scoring in the third quarter just before the midway point. Mull answered with a jumper of her own, and then answered a pair of NG baskets. A Russell lay-up with seven seconds left pushed the lead to 39-33 heading to the fourth quarter.

The final stanza saw the Lady Huskies storm to the lead with a quick 8-0 run to open the period. Strickland snapped the run with a free throw and jump shot. After North Greene regained a 46-43 lead with 37 seconds left, Russell drained a 3-pointer to force overtime.

In the extra period, Strickland pushed CHS ahead with a pair of free throws, and Mull added two of her to give Cloudland a 50-47 advantage with just over two minutes to play. Weems drained a trey to pull the Lady Huskies within one, but Patricia Singleton hit a layup and Cloudland finished the game on a 5-1 run to secure the win.

Mull’s 24 points was a game high, while Strickland tossed in nine points. Russell ended the game with 11 points. Weems led North Greene with 20 points.

Cloudland will open the Region 1-A tournament on Monday, Feb. 23, at Northview Academy, while the Lady Huskies will travel to Cosby.
