In a District 1-A clash, it was a mixed bag for Unaka on Friday night.

The Lady Rangers pulled away in the second half to take a 52-39 victory over University High, but the Rangers were unable to complete a second-half rally in a 64-51 decision to the Bucs on Stoney Creek.

In the girls’ game, it was a battle from the opening tip.
University High limited Unaka in the first half to take a 24-18 lead into the half. The Lady Rangers, however, got things back on track to take the lead and pull away for the win.
Unaka outscored UH 34-15 in the second half.

Madison Pierce had 15 points to lead the Lady Rangers, while Myah Parlier added 14 points. Savannah Tipton scored 11 points for Unaka.

Sarah Fisher paced UH with 11 points.

In the boys’ game, the Rangers had to overcome a slow start.

The Bucs pushed the lead to 21-8 after eight minutes of play. Unaka got warmed up offensively, but UH maintained a 39-22 advantage at the break.

The Rangers continued to battle and was able to trim the UH lead in the second half.

John Ramsey finished with 15 points for Unaka, while Isaac Hill added 12 points. Ryan Johnson tallied 11 points for the Rangers.

Marshall Fleenor had a game-high 17 points for UH – who went 30-of-34 from the free throw line in the game.
