It was all about the team-effort Thursday night for the Lady Warriors.
Kalee Johnson recorded a double-double of 14 points and 12 boards and two other Lady Warriors hit double figures in Happy Valley’s 61-38 victory over Sullivan South in the District 1-AA tournament quaterfinals inside the Dyer Dome in Bluff City.
Happy Valley moved their overall record to 20-8 on the year with the triumph.
The Lady Rebels took the early 8-6 lead in the first five minutes of quarter number one but the Lady Warriors capitalized on a 9-0 run to end the quarter on top, 15-8, with buckets from Beth Reece, free throws from Kenzie Davis and a three-pointer from Jenna Eaton.
Davis (13 points) kept the offensive press up in the first half with eight points and helped the Lady Warriors double-up South in the second quarter, 16-8, to lead at intermission 31-18.
Johnson was limited to two points in the first half but rattled off 12 points in the second half, all in the third, to help the lead extend to 54-28 at the end of the third.
Annie Woods was an even distributor for the Lady Warriors, leading the team with six assists on the night.
Emily Whitaker also hit double figures with 10 points on the night.
Kaitlyn Roberts, Kaylee Street, and Eaton all chipped into the scoring column in the victory.

Happy Valley will meet the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones in the semifinals Saturday with a bid to Monday’s title game on the line … Unicoi County defeated Sullivan North, 69 to 18, to advance to the other semifinals contest against Sullivan East … HV/EHS play at 7 p.m. on Saturday while UC/East will tip-off at 4 p.m.
All four teams qualified for the Region 1-AA tournament set to begin next week against District 2-AA teams. Grainger and Greeneville girls received automatic bids for finishing first and second in the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference.
