Cloudland came up short on the road Thursday night.
The ‘Landers were unable to overcome an early deficit as CHS fell 41-28 to R-S Central (N.C.) in Rutherford, N.C. on Thursday night.
With the loss, Cloudland moves to 5-4 on the season.
R-S Central opened the scoring three minutes into the game, but Cloudland answered as Cam Peppers scored on a seven-yard run with 6:05 left in the quarter.
The Hilltoppers, however, answered to take a 13-6 lead into the second quarter – where R-S Central added a pair of touchdowns to take a 27-6 halftime lead.
Cloudland continued to battle in the second half.
After the Hilltoppers added to their lead, the ‘Landers got on the board again as Kyle Birchfield scored on a six-yard run.
The two-point conversion was good on a Birchfield run as CHS trailed 41-12 early fourth quarter.
Birchfield scored his second touchdown of the night midway through the fourth with a short run and then added the two-point conversion.
The ‘Landers capped the scoring in the closing minutes as Grayson Cole scored on a short run. However, CHS was unable to keep the rally going before time expired.
Birchfield finished with 191 rushing yards.
