The Hampton football program has a new coach.
Michael Lunsford will take over the Bulldog program that his father Mike led for nine seasons. Lunsford was an assistant for eight seasons with the Hampton program.
Mike Lunsford resigned in January to return to Roan Mountain as head coach of the Cloudland program.
“It is very rewarding feeling right now,” Lunsford said. “I’m excited about getting work with the kids. I’m also very grateful for all the people who have helped me get to this position.”
Prior to his coaching career began, Lunsford was a standout quarterback for the program including setting numerous records.
Hampton went 13-1 this past season, and made the state semifinals before falling to Marion County.
