Good frosty morning!

We hope you are having a great morning and staying warm on this chilly Thursday. Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to the district basketball schedules this week, and we hope to get all the games in on Friday. With that said, it’s been five days since we last had a game involving a county team, and we thought we would refresh your memory on the tournament action so far.

In District 1-AA, the championship games have an Elizabethton flair. The Lady Cyclones dispatched Happy Valley in the semifinals to advance to the title game, which is now set for 4 p.m. on Friday. On the boys’ side, the Cyclones had to pull away late from Sullivan North in the opening game, and then rolled past Sullivan East to claim a spot in the title game. That game is set for 5:30 p.m., on Friday, weather permitting of course.

The Lady Warriors of Happy Valley extended their season with an opening round win over Sullivan South, but came up short against Elizabethton to move into the consolation game. Happy Valley will now face Unicoi County with third place on the line, and both teams will have to travel for the opening round of the regional tournament.

If they are unable to play on Friday, the District 1-AA tournament will follow the same schedule on Saturday.

In District 1-A, the Hampton boys and girls won their opening games to advance to the title games. The Bulldogs dispatched North Greene, while the Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter for a win over the Lady Huskies. The Cloudland girls, who dispatched Unaka in the opening round, will face North Greene in the consolation game after punching their ticket to the Region 1-A tournament as well.

With the district tournaments still to finish, we do know a little about how the bracket for the region tournaments. Elizabethton girls and boys as well as Hampton girls and boys will host their opening round game while Cloudland and Happy Valley girls will hit the road. The girls games are currently set for Monday while the guys will open the region tournament on Tuesday. The winners will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, with 1-A at Chuckey-Doak High School and 1-AA at Sullivan East, and the finals are slated to be on Thursday.

Once we get back to action, it is going to be a busy time. Be sure to check back, follow us on Twitter @CarterCoSports and like us on Facebook for the latest info!

Have a great day!
