In a pair of league games, Cloudland had mixed results.

The Lady ‘Landers scored the first 35 points and never looked back en route to a 68-23 win, while the ‘Landers were unable to overcome a quick University High start in a 71-50 decision on Senior Night inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium.

It was all Cloudland to open the girls’ game.

Ella Benfield and Izabella Christman set the tone early as the Lady ‘Landers quickly jumped out. With shots from Ryan Turbyfill, Katie Baldwin, and Kendall Birchfield, CHS held a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Lady ‘Landers pushed the advantage to 35-0 before UH got on the board, and Cloudland maintained a 47-5 lead at the half.

Cloudland scored nine of the first 11 points in the third quarter and never looked back to take the win.

Christman led the way with 25 points, while Benfield had 10 points. Birchfield had eight points, while Eowyn McCoury and Turbyfill had seven points apiece.

In the boys’ game, Cloudland found themselves in an early hole.
University High scored 10 of the first 12 points and held a 19-7 lead after a quarter of play with Ryan Sexton scoring all seven Cloudland points.

CHS saw Gage McKinney and Sexton hit quick shots to close within seven points, but the Bucs used a 14-2 run to extend the lead.

UH maintained a 32-16 lead at the half.

Cloudland continued to battle as Nick Caraway and McKinney along with a Sexton trey combined for a 10-0 Cloudland run. UH, however, answered the run to push the lead back out before the end of the third.

The ‘Landers were unable to mount a rally in the final quarter despite a hard-fought effort.

Sexton had 19 points to pace Cloudland, while Caraway had 11 points. McKinney had nine points.
