It was a defensive battle on Warrior Hill Tuesday afternoon.
Hampton outlasted Happy Valley in a county softball clash for a 2-1 victory in nonconference play.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the scoring as Abby Willis scored a run in the top of the first.
Hampton pushed the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third as Maleah Scalf touched home plate to push the lead to 2-0.
Happy Valley countered in the home side of the third as Julie Nieminski scored to pull HV back in one.
Both teams were able to base runners on in the closing stages but was unable to plate a run as the defenses held strong.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Warriors put the game-winning run on base with no outs, but Hampton recorded a triple play to end the game.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with three double plays and the game-clinching double.
