Hampton held off a pesky Unaka squad on Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs outlasted Unaka for a 66-44 win in the District 1-A Semifinals at West Ridge High School.
With the win, Hampton secured a spot in next Tuesday’s District 1-A Championship game as well as a home game in the opening round of the Region 1-A tournament. Unaka moved into the consolation game which is also next Tuesday night.
In the opening quarter, the teams traded shots to open things up as
Hampton’s Madi McClain and Macy Henry countered shots from Unaka’s Lyndie Ramsey. The Lady Bulldogs used an 8-2 run to end the first quarter to take a 20-10 lead after one.
With key shots from Linsey Jenkins and Piper Helle, Hampton took a 13-point lead midway through the first, but Haley Taylor, Keyona Hague, and Ramsey stopped the run with shots as the Lady Bulldogs held a 32-24 halftime lead.
Hampton methodically pulled away in the second half.
Jenkins and Taylor swapped shots to open the half before Hampton scored the next 10-out-of 12 points to take a 44-31 lead after three complete.
The Lady Rangers kept battling in the fourth, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to secure the win.
Jenkins led Hampton with 18 points, while McClain had 14 points. Henry and Helle finished 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Ramsey led Unaka with a game-high 31 points. Taylor had five points, while Emma Tayor and Hague had four points apiece.
