Saturday Recap: Hampton, Lady Rangers take wins

It was a busy Saturday for county teams.

Cosby 71, Unaka 66 (Boys)

The Rangers were unable to hold off a late charge as the Eagles stormed back to take the lead with just a minute to play in the game. Unaka held a 17-15 lead after the first quarter, and the teams were tied up at 33-33 at the half.

A 9-4 run along with a 6-0 run pushed Unaka into six-point lead right before the end of the third quarter. However, the Rangers were able to increase the lead, and Cosby rallied back in the final minutes to take the win.

Unaka 60, Cosby 38 (Girls)

The Lady Rangers set the tone in the second quarter and never looked back.

Unaka, who held a 10-8 lead after a quarter of play, used an 8-0 run in the first minute of the second, and held the Lady Eagles to just one point in the frame to take a 32-9 lead at the half. From there, Unaka maintained the lead to take the win.

Hampton 73, University High 50 (Boys)

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-0 lead to open the game and cruised to a district win over the Jr. Bucs.

Hampton led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter, and outscored UH 29-10 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 35 points in the third quarter to secure the win.

Hampton 65, University High 38 (Girls)

The Lady Bulldogs shook off the Christmas break with a solid district win.

A slow start saw Hampton hold a 32-19 lead at the half. However, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Jr. Bucs 33-19 to take the win.
