The third round of the TSSAA playoffs is set with Cloudland, Elizabethton and Hampton set to battle to try and extend their seasons next Friday night.
In Class A, the ‘Landers will host Coalfield in a state quarterfinal at Orr Field. It is Cloudland’s first state quarterfinal appearance since 2002.
The Yellow Jackets defeated Midway 41-6 on Friday night to advance.
It will be the first match-up between Cloudland and Coalfield’s thrilling 29-24 victory in 2018 in a second-round contest.
The winner will host the winner of the Gordonsville at South Pittsburg game in a state semifinal matchup.
In Class 2A, Hampton will travel to Oneida for their quarterfinal appearance after rolling past Region 2 No. 1 seed Rockwood. It will be Hampton’s first quarterfinal appearance since 2015.
The Indians upset South Greene 35-21 on Friday night to extend the season.
The two teams met in last year’s opening round with Hampton taking a 28-14 victory at JC Campbell Stadium. It will be the Bulldogs’ first trip to Oneida since 2013.
The winner of the Hampton/Oneida game will host the winner of the Trousdale County at Watertown contest in a state semifinal.
In Class 4A, Elizabethton will travel to Greeneville for a highly anticipated rematch. The defending back-to-back state champions advanced to their third straight state quarterfinal.
The Greene Devils rolled past Fulton in the second round on Friday night. Greeneville snapped a four-game Cyclone winning streak in the series earlier in the season.
The winner of this quarterfinal matchup has won the state championship four straight years with Elizabethton winning the past two years and Greeneville the two years prior.
The Elizabethton and Greeneville winner will host the winner of Upperman and Red Bank in a state semifinal.
All kickoffs are set for 7p next Friday night.
