Thursday Round-up: Bulldogs Sweep Hancock; Lady Cyclones Outlast Unicoi

Hampton 14, Hancock County 2
Hampton 9, Hancock County 2 (baseball)
The Bulldogs brought out the brooms on Thursday with a non-conference sweep.

The first game saw McKinley Kuhn go 2-for-3 with three RBi, while Parker Henry added two hits with a RBI and stolen base. Morgan Lyons picked up the win as he allowed just two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts.

The second game saw Chance Point go 2-for-3 with a RBI – Point also recorded five stolen bases in the doubleheader. Henry was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Elizabethton 3, Unicoi County 1 (softball)
The Lady Cyclones won a Thursday thriller for a crucial Three Rivers win.

In the home side of the fifth, Elizabethton tied the game at 1-1 when Cheyenne Poiroux hit a double that brought Hannah Morgan across the plate. The next at-bat saw Emma O’Quinn hit a double that scored Poiroux, and then E. O’Quinn scored off a Maddie O’Quinn single to give EHS a 3-1 advantage.

In the pitching circle, Madisun Pritchard allowed just one earned run on nine hits with 11 strikeouts to power EHS to the win.

Sullivan South 8, Happy Valley 5 (softball)
The Lady Warriors were unable to overcome a six-run fourth inning by the Lady Rebels.

HV held a 2-1 lead after three and a half innings, but South was able to plate six runs to take control in the home side of the fourth. Happy Valley battled back two runs in the fifth, but they were unable to rally.

Allie Grindstaff was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Maddie Lingerfelt and Blakelee Ollis had two hits apiece.

Abby Holt was handed the loss despite allowing just three earned runs on eight hits.

North Greene 4, Unaka 3 (softball)
The Lady Rangers were unable to answer a late North Greene run in their first district loss of the season.

Unaka jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, runs were hard to come by for both teams setting the stage for the Lady Huskies’ dramatic win.

Sadie Shoun was 3-for-4 at the plate for Unaka, while Trinity Bowers, Alana Parsons, Noelle Collins, Hailey Gilman, and Kylie Blevins each added a hit.
