Thursday Round-up: CHS Softball opens season with win

Cloudland 12, Sullivan North 0 (softball)
The Lady ‘Landers kicked off the 2020 season in style with a strong win at Sullivan north.

Kaylen Fields went 4-for-4 at the play with four RBI to lead the way, while Kristi Bare, Karah Fields, Heaven Caraway, Jasmine Birchfield and Kenzie Birchfield each had two hits apiece.


Elizabethton 10, Happy Valley 1 (softball)
The Lady Cyclones pulled away in the final stages to take a Three Rivers win over HV.

Kaylen Shell, Marley Wagner, Madisun Pritchard and Maddie O’Quinn each recorded two hits apiece for Elizabethton. In the circle, Pritchard pitched a gem as she allowed just one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Maddie Lingerfelt was 2-for-3 to pace the Lady Warriors, while Cierra Southerland added a hit.

Hampton 8, Happy Valley 4 (baseball)
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the seventh to pull away from HV.

Weston Street, Caleb Royston and Josh Stout had two hits apiece, while Dalton Rouse added a two-run homerun in the third.

On the mound, Josh Owens picked up the win as he allowed just two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Andrew Little led HV with a 3-for-3 performance, while Jacob Absher had two hits. Hunter Smith strike out six batters in six innings of work on the mound.

Unaka 13, Hampton 0 (softball)
The Lady Rangers plated 10 runs in the top of the fourth to take the win over Hampton.

Sadie Shoun went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kendall Bare, Alana Parsons, Noelle Collins, Lillie Kiser and Beth Lowe each had two hits apiece.

In the circle, Trinity Bowers stuck out seven batters and allowed one hit to pick up the win.

Destini Milhorn and Madison Setlock each had a hit apiece for Hampton.

Elizabethton 5, Sullivan South 4 (girls’ tennis)
The Lady Cyclones picked up a key Three Rivers win on Thursday evening.

Reagan Armstrong, Abbie Addington and Morgan Heaton all recorded wins for EHS in singles action, while the teams of Taylor Thompson and Addington and the team of Mattie Davis and Heaton picked up win in doubles action.

Elizabethton 8, Sullivan South 1 (boys’ tennis)
The Cyclones rolled to a win over the Rebels in Three Rivers play.

Elijah Smith, Jacob Lipford, Luke Carrier, Nick Street and Nate Wetzel each won in singles action. Patrick O’Quinn and Corbin Montgomery along with Smith and Lipford and the team of Carrier and Street each picked up doubles wins.
