Thursday Round-up: Lady Cyclones Jump Out Early For Win; Bulldogs Win Offensive Clash Over Unaka

Elizabethton 9, Sullivan East 1
The Lady Cyclones used a fast start to take a win over the Lady Patriots.

After East opened the game with a run in the top of the first, Elizabethton plated three runs in the home side of the frame including a Sadie Williams solo home run. The Lady Cyclones pushed the lead to 7-1 after two complete innings and added single runs for insurance in the fifth and sixth innings.

Williams went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Emma O’Quinn was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Mikinna Blackwell, Jozey Reece, Adrian Heading, and Lela Byrd each added an RBI.

In the circle, Byrd struck out 11 batters in just under six innings of work and allowed just one earned run on six hits.

Unaka 16, University High 1
The Lady Rangers jumped out early and never looked back.
Unaka plated four runs in the first and eight more in the second to take full control and roll to a district win.

Kaitlyn Dugger was 3-for-3 with four RBI for the Lady Rangers, while Mollie Buckles tallied three RBI and two hits.

Haley Taylor added two hits. Gracie Stout and Keyona Hague recorded two RBI.

In the circle, Stout allowed just one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Cloudland 7, Twin Springs (Va.) 5
The Lady ‘Landers rallied in the bottom of the sixth to storm back and take a nonconference win in Roan Mountain Thursday evening.

Cloudland took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third before Twin Springs got one of the runs back in the top of the fourth. Twin Springs took the lead in the top of the six with four runs as they held a 5-4 advantage going to the home side of the frame.

The Lady ‘Landers, however, responded in a big way as CHS used a double from Reagan Turbyfill and a triple from Jayla Harper to plate three runs and the lead.

From there, CHS was able to keep Twin Springs at bay to secure the win.

Saharra McKinney went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Izabella Christman and Harper added a hit and two RBI apiece.

In the pitching circle, Turbyfill allowed five unearned runs on four hits.

Baseball
Hampton 28, Unaka 10
It was a wild offensive showdown on Stoney Creek Thursday night as the teams combined for 50 hits and 38 runs in the seven-inning contest.

After Hampton took a 6-0 lead through an inning and a half, Unaka battled back to close the deficit to 10-8 after the fourth. Hampton added two runs in the fifth, but the Rangers countered with two more of their own in the sixth to enter the final inning down two runs.

The Bulldog bats, however, came alive and plated 16 in the seventh to secure the win.

Jayden Kuhn and Noah Nichols went 5-for-6 with five RBI apiece to lead Hampton, while Landon Buchanan was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Elisha Henson and Chance Point added four hits apiece.

Logan Lewis went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Rylan Crabtree was 3-for-5 to lead Unaka. Cameron Prince added two hits and two RBI, while Jacob Niddifer had four hits. Brycen Eggers also added three hits for the Rangers.
