Tuesday Softball Round-up: Unaka rolls past UH

Unaka 14, University High 7 (Softball)
The Lady Rangers scored eight runs in the opening frame and never looked back.

Unaka took control early with a 10-3 lead after two innings of play, and then added four runs for insurance in the final inning.

Lillie Kiser led the way as she was 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs. Erika Potter and Noelle Collins had two hits each. Kendall Bare knocked in three RBIs for the Unaka cause.

In the pitching circle, Kailey Wilson allowed just four earned runs on 11 hits.


Unicoi County 9, Elizabethton 6 (softball)
The Lady Cyclones were unable to rally past Unicoi in Erwin.

After Kaylen Shell hit a solo homerun in the top of the second, the Lady Blue Devils plated two runs in the second and three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead. UC added four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Elizabethton, however, didn’t go quietly as Haley Fair hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run inning to close the gap, but was unable to get back into the lead.

Maggie Johnson was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Maddie O’Quinn, Kira Dillard, Autumn Hensley, Fair and Shell each had a hit. Fair finished with three RBIS. Hensley added two RBIs.

Johnson County 9, Happy Valley 3 (softball)
Johnson County limited Happy Valley to take a Three Rivers Conference win.

Laura Rice led the Lady Warriors with a 4-for-4 performance. Allie Grindstaff was 2-for-3 for the Lady Warrior cause.
