It was a soggy night on Warrior Hill for Homecoming 2015. However, Happy Valley certainly didn’t mind.
The Warriors scored 27 unanswered points to roll to an important 34-8 victory over Region 1-AA foe North Greene. With the win, Happy Valley moves to 2-2 in region play and 4-3 overall.
After the teams played the first quarter scoreless, Happy Valley saw Josh Hammonds score on a 27-yard run to take an early 7-0 lead. After stopping the Huskies inside their own 20, Dusten Sams pushed the lead to 13-0 with a 12-yard run.
The first half scoring was capped when Dylan Street scored his first of three touchdowns on the night – this one from two yards out. That allowed Happy Valley to take a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
After the break, the Warriors continued to hold the momentum. Street put Happy Valley back on the board when he broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run, and a Sage Haun run on the conversion pushed the lead to 27-0 entering the final quarter.
The Huskies added an 11-yard pass to open the final period, but Street countered with his final score of the night – another 66-yard run to cap off the scoring for the night.
Street had a game-high 187 yards on 10 carries, while Sams tallied 40 yards on six carries. Austin Hicks and Hammonds had 35 and 31 yards, respectively.
The Warriors will travel to Gatlinburg-Pittman in a match-up with major implications next Friday. The Highlanders were leading 14-0 in the first quarter against Cosby on Friday night when the game was postponed until Monday night.
