Warriors Use Quick Start To Take Win Over Eagleton
Happy Valley broke into the win column in a big way.
The Warriors captured a 39-12 victory over Region 1-2A foe Eagleton Academy on Friday night on Warrior Hill.
Happy Valley jumped out early.
The Warriors had a 12-play drive that ended with a seven-yard touchdown run from Aiden Paul midway through the first. Paul added the two-point conversion.
The Happy Valley defense came up big a couple of plays later as A.J. Campbell jumped in front of a Royal pass, and the next play from scrimmage saw Ron Paul Parker break free for a 36-yard run for the touchdown. Joseph Sowards added the two-point conversion as HV went up 16-0.
After the Warrior defense forced Eagleton off the field on fourth down, the HV offense struck again as A. Paul scored on a 9-yard run as the Warriors took a 24-0 lead into the second quarter.
Eagleton broke onto the board on the first play of the second quarter as quarterback Nathan Clemmer escaped and ran 58 yards for a touchdown, but HV answered as A. Paul scored his third touchdown of the night with a 68-yard touchdown.
The Royals were able to trim into the HV lead in the closing seconds of the half as Eric Fox caught a seven-yard pass from Clemmer for the score.
Happy Valley led 30-12 at the break.
Neither team was able to get into the endzone in the third quarter. The Warriors, however, broke onto the scoreboard on the first play of the fourth quarter as Sowards scored on a three-yard. Jamie Esterline added the two-point conversion.
The Warrior defense would continue to stymie the Royals, and Happy Valley was able to secure the game in the final minutes to secure the win.
A. Paul finished with 206 yards on 19 carries for the Warriors, while Sowards added 14 carries for 81 yards. Esterline had 10 carries for 68 yards.
As a team, HV had 424 rushing yards.
Happy Valley is set to return to the road next Friday as they will travel to Unaka for a nonconference clash.
