Hampton was unable to weather a second-quarter barrage.

The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 56-13 decision to York Institute in the Class 2A quarterfinals at JC Campbell Stadium on Friday night after HHS was unable to answer 37 York points in the second quarter.

With the loss, Hampton’s stellar season comes to a close with a 10-3 mark.

The teams traded scores in the opening quarter as Chadrick Leffew capped off a York drive with a one-yard run. The snap on the extra point went high.

Hampton answered as Dom Burleson scored from five yards out to tie things up.

The Burleson score was set up by a 43-yard pass from McElyea to Chance Point – who was in his first game back after being injured in the season opener.

McElyea was playing in the QB spot in relief of senior starting quarterback Dylan Trivett who was injured earlier this week.

The second quarter was all York.

The Dragons regained the lead as Riylin Miller caught a 28-yard pass from Leffew for the touchdown. York was able to limit Hampton offensively in the stretch and took advantage. Blake Voiles added an 11-yard score, while Miller had two touchdowns – a 68-yard run and a 73-yard pass completion from Leffew – to take control of the game.

York led 43-6 at the half after Leffew hit Bryson Bilbrey for an

eight-yard touchdown.
Hampton continued to battle in the second half.

After two York scores, Shayden Oliver capped the scoring for Hampton with a two-yard run, while Noah Nickles added the extra point.

Burleson ended the game with 80 rushing yards on 25 carries, while Peyton Townsend had 10 carries for 25 yards.

McElyea went 5-of-10 passing for 98 yards, while Point had 53 receiving yards on two catches.

Elijah McKinney had a 41-yard reception.

Miller led York with 116 yards on eight carries with 101 receiving yards, while Logan Pannell had 103 yards on nine carries.

Leffew was 5-of-9 passing for 179 yards. Will Beaty had two catches for 70 yards.
