Cloudland splits at South Greene

It was a District 1-A clash on Rebel Hill.

The Lady ‘Landers were on an upset mission on Tuesday night, but the Lady Rebels held the final advantage to take a 42-36 victory over Cloudland. The boys game saw Cloudland score early and often to take a 67-25 win.


In the girls’ game, Shian Strickland hit two 3-pointers while Trinity Vines added a jumper in the opening quarter for CHS, but South Greene, who is the top-ranked team in Class A, held a 13-8 lead at the end of the first eight minutes. The Lady ‘Landers saw SG extend the advantage to 10 points in the second quarter.

Cloudland, however, wasn’t going to go quietly.

Five Lady ‘Landers scored in the third quarter as CHS outscored SG 12-4. That pulled the Cloudland within 30-28 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady ‘Landers closed the gap to one point in the fourth quarter. However, they were unable to get over the edge against the Lady Rebels.

DonRae Taylor had 10 points to lead Cloudland, while Strickland had eight points. Stacia Wilson had six points.

Braelyn Wykle had 22 points to lead South Greene.

The ‘Landers jumped out early with 3-pointers. That allowed for CHS to take a 27-7 lead into the second quarter.

Joseph Trivette and Brinkley Mull hit two 3-pointers apiece in the second quarter as CHS continued to roll. Cloudland held a 50-11 lead at the half.

From there, it was all ‘Landers.

Mull led Cloudland with 15 points. Trivet had 12 points, while Preston Benfield scored 10 points. Robert Leeper and Jason Potter had eight points each.
