The ‘Landers had to wait two days to get on the field in Week 8. Unfortunately, the delay gave the Patriots all the time they needed.

Cloudland was unable to keep pace with a larger Sullivan East squad as they fell 51-22 on Sunday in Bluff City in non conference action.

The loss drops Cloudland to 5-3 on the season.

After Sullivan East jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter, Senior Colby Birchfield put the ‘Landers on the board with a two-yard run. Birchfield also added the two-point conversion to pull the ‘Landers within four points.

However, the Patriots added 12 more points before the half to take a 24-8 advantage.

The ‘Landers were unable to convert on early opportunities in the third quarter. Sullivan East, however, extended the lead to 37-8 after three quarters of play.

Austin Whitehead opened the fourth quarter for Cloudland with a touchdown as he slashed through the East defense from 11-yards out. Whitehead would cap off the Cloudland scoring as he hit freshman Josh Blair for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Offensively, Whitehead led the way with 22 carries for 170 yards rushing while also adding 143 passing yards by going 9-of-21, and also added 170 rushing yards on 14 carries. Birchfield had 73 yards on 22 carries, while Arnett tallied 61 yards.

Dakota Ashley had three catches for 50 yards.

James Arwood led the defense with 10 total tackles, while Ashley added four tackles.

Cloudland returns to action on Friday as they welcome Hancock County to Orr Field for Senior Night. A win would give Cloudland the conference championship.

“It is good to get your butt kicked every now and then,” Cloudland head coach Brock Pittman said. “That’s the way I look at it. We’re playing for a championship next week. That’s what I told them, we have to get ready for that.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
