Elizabethton was unable to hold off a late Sullivan South charge on Tuesday night.
The Cyclones dropped a 57-51 road game to the Rebels in Three Rivers play. In the girls’ game, the Lady Cyclones pulled away in the final quarter to take a 53-38 win.
The boys’ game saw Elizabethton take control early.
Nico Ashley and the Cyclones stormed out to an eight-point lead over the first eight minutes, and then pushed the advantage to 10 points at the half. South limited Elizabethton’s opportunities in the second half. That allowed the Rebels to trim four points off the EHS lead in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Rebels continued to have the momentum as they took the lead with just under six minutes to play. The Cyclones continued to battle but was unable to get back in front.
Ashley led Elizabethton with 21 points. Jake Roberts tallied 16 points.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cyclones used a strong defensive effort to pickup a key road win.
Elizabethton methodically took an eight-point lead in the first quarter and maintained the advantage at the half. After South made a run, the Lady Cyclones outscored the host Lady Rebels 16-6 in the final eight minutes to secure the win.
EHS finished with 10 blocked shots on the night.
Kaylen Shell had a banner night as she tallied 17 points in the win. Kaitlin Bailey had 11 points, while Lina Lyon finished with nine points.
