Elizabethton Cruises Past Grainger

It was all Elizabethton on Friday night.

The Cyclones scored early and often en route to a 65-14 win over Grainger in Region 1-4A play on the road.

With the win, Elizabethton improves to 3-0 on the year.

EHS set the tone early.

Kaleb Holzer scored two short touchdowns early in the first, while Landry Buckles had a 24-yard pick-six to give Elizabethton a 21-0 lead.

Zeth Mullins capped off the first quarter scoring with a touchdown run to send EHS into the second quarter with a 28-0 lead.

Jeriah Griffin extended the lead early in the second with a two-yard touchdown run. After the Grizz got on the board with a 96-yard kickoff return from Jace Robinson, Mullins answered with an 18-yard run while Rhett Slagle hit Cameron Baker for a 25-yard touchdown to send Elizabethton into the locker room with a 49-8 lead.

The Cyclones kept on rolling in the second half as Holzer and Baker each had lengthy touchdown runs (45 and 42 yards, respectively) as EHS led 63-8 after three complete.

Elizabethton’s defense recorded the final points of the night with a safety, and Grainger scored in the closing minutes to account for the final score.

Holzer ended the game with six carries for 90 yards, while Baker had 64 yards on three carries. Mullins added 53 yards on seven carries.

Slagle went 4-for-6 passing for 102 yards.

As a team, EHS outgained Grainger 377-127 in the game.
