Elizabethton rolls to homecoming win

It was a happy homecoming at Dave Rider Field on Friday night.

The Cyclones raced out to an early lead and never looked back as they dispatched David Crockett 55-20 on Friday night.

After having to punt on the opening drive, the Cyclones took advantage of a Pioneer fumble as Thomas opened the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown.

The Cyclone defense forced a punt on the ensuing David Crockett drive, and Caleb Armstrong hit Jalen Smith to push the lead to 14-0. Thomas added a one-yard touchdown to give Elizabethton a 21-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

The senior struck again early in the second, this time from two yards out, to make the it a four score lead.

After David Crockett finally broke onto the scoreboard, Thomas left no doubt who the better team was with a 41-yard run through the Pioneers’ defense to give Elizabethton a 35-8 lead at the half.

David Crockett struck again to open the half, but Thomas had another answer as he broke free for a 65-yard run to counter the score.

Jermiah Turner and Caleb Jones added late touchdowns for the Cyclones to cap off the scoring.

Applebee’s of Elizabethton Player of the Week Ethan Thomas finished the game with 19 carries for 198 yards with five touchdowns. Armstrong finished with 100 yards passing for the Cyclones.
