Elizabethton celebrated senior night in a big way on Friday.
The Cyclones rolled to a 43-6 victory over Chuckey-Doak in Region 1-3A action inside Citizens Bank Stadium. With the win, Elizabethton clinched at least a share of the region title, and will face Northview Academy next Friday with the No. 1 seed as well as the outright title on the line.
Sophomore Corey Russell set the tone early for Elizabethton.
The speedy back scored on a 45-yard run as well as a 24-yard run to give EHS a 14-0 advantage early in the game. Russell added to the lead with his arm as he hit Conner Johnson for an 11-yard touchdown.
Elizabethton took a 28-0 advantage into the half as Russell found Johnson again – this time for a 43-yard halfback pass – for the score.
Senior Jacob Turner opened the scoring in the third quarter as he took a pass from Carter Everett 35 yards for a touchdown, and fellow senior Logan Norman used a short touchdown run to push the EHS lead to 40-0.
After the Black Knights on the board with a kickoff return for a touchdown, Dylan Nordby added a 25-yard field goal to cap off the scoring.
Russell finished the game with 118 rushing yards while throwing for 105 yards. The sophomore was 5-of-8 passing.
Johnson had 82 yards receiving on four catches.
