Former Elizabethton standout and current Middle Tennessee State University standout Parker Hughes has received a nomination for a prestigious award.
Hughes has been selected as a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy.
The Burlsworth Trophy has been given annually to the most outstanding FBS college football player who began his career as a walk-on.
Hughes, who was voted as a team captain, has been a key piece in the MTSU defense this season – including his first career interception with a return of 62 yards. This season, the linebacker has tallied 80 total tackles – including 14 against Marshall earlier this season.
This is the second season that Hughes has been selected as a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy.
The Burlsworth Trophy was first awarded in 2010 to college football’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. The award is dedicated to Brandon Burlsworth – a student-athlete at Arkansas who went from walk-on to All-American. After being drafted in the 1999 NFL Draft, Burlsworth was tragically killed in an automobile accident just after the draft.
