Hampton unable to take road wins at South Greene

It was a tough trip to Rebel Hill for Hampton on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs were unable to pull off an upset over South Greene in a 65-54 loss, while the Bulldogs saw the Rebels take a 71-61 victory.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Rebels set the tone early by racing out to a 28-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Hampton tried to cut into the lead in the second quarter but trailed 40-26 at the break.

The Lady Bulldogs, however, did trim into the lead in the third quarter as Alexus Grubbs powered Hampton to cut the deficit to 10 points. South Greene held a 50-40 lead after three quarters of play.

The final quarter saw Hampton close the gap to four points with just over four minutes to play. However, that was as close as Hampton could get before time expired.

Grubbs led the way with 18 points, while Shyanne Tuelle tallied 15 points. Megan Garland and Bree Hoyle had seven and six points, respectively. Hope Bridgeman added five points, and Kenezey Hill tossed in three points.

Taylor Lamb led South Greene with 24 points. Brainy Wykle had 23 points for the Lady Rebels.

In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs took a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Rebels flipped the script in the second half to take a 34-31 lead at the break.

The Rebels limited the Bulldogs to seven points in the third quarter while taking a 47-38 advantage into the final quarter.

Offense picked up the pace in the fourth, but Hampton was unable to mount a rally as the Rebels held on for the win.

Nathan Norris led the way for Hampton with 18 points. Charlie Butler added 10 points, while Adam McClain tossed in eight points.
