Lady Bulldogs Pull Away From Austin East To Advance

A strong third quarter propelled Hampton into the Region 1-2A Semifinals.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Austin East 23-9 in the third quarter and pulled away to take a 77-65 victory in the Region 1-2A Quarterfinals in Hampton on Friday night.

With the win, Hampton secured a spot in Monday’s Region 1-2A semifinals. HHS will take on Gatlinburg-Pittman at 6p at Alcoa.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the early going.

Piper Helle and Taylor Berry scored six points apiece in the opening quarter as Hampton held a slim 16-15 lead after a quarter of play. The teams continued to trade shots in the second as Hannah Smith provided a spark with eight second-quarter points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Hampton maintained a 34-29 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, HHS took control.

Hampton limited the Lady Roadrunners to just two field goals while seven Lady Bulldogs recorded points in the frame as HHS outscored AE 23-9 in the frame. That allowed Hampton to take a 57-38 lead into the final quarter.

Austin East kept battling in the final quarter, but Hampton was able to keep them at bay to secure the win.

Smith led Hampton with 19 points, while Helle ended the game with 16 points. Macy Henry scored an added 12 points. Berry and Faye Carrico scored nine and eight points, respectively.

Tymirriana Brown led Austin East with 18 points, while Daleyah Brown scored 10 points.
