The Lady Cyclones added another checkmark to the goals list on Wednesday.

Elizabethton held off a late charge from Greeneville to capture the Region 1-AA Championship with a 6-5 victory in Greeneville. With the win, Elizabethton is set to host Gibbs in a Class AA section on Friday.

Runs were hard to come by in the opening stages.

Both teams were able to get two baserunners on board in the first inning but came away empty. The second inning saw both teams retired in order.

Elizabethton struck first in the top of the third.

Maely Ingram reached base with a single, and Maddie O’Quinn was able to take advantage of an error. After Ember Jensen loaded the bases, Madisun Pritchard hit a double to center field that brought Ingram, Jensen, and O’Quinn across the plate.

A double-play ended the frame, and the Lady Cyclones retired the Lady Green Devils in order to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth.

Mollie Johnson opened the fourth inning with a single, and Emma O’Quinn reached base via an error. After an Ingram fielder’s choice, M. O’Quinn delivered a double to centerfield that scored two runs and then scored off a Pritchard single to give EHS a 6-0 lead.

Greeneville, however, answered with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap. GHS added two more runs in the fifth and closed within one run in the bottom of the sixth.

Elizabethton placed two runners on base in the top of the seventh to try and extend the lead but was unable to plate a run.

The Lady Cyclones defense, however, rose to the occasion with a pop-out and two straight flyballs to end the game and claim the Region 1-AA title.

Pritchard had a day as she was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI, and allowed just four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in the pitching circle.

M. O’Quinn recorded two RBI and a hit, while Ingram, Jensen, and Johnson each added a hit.
