Cloudland was unable to rally late on Tuesday night.
The Lady ‘Landers dropped a hard-fought 40-34 contest to North Greene in the District 1-A Tournament at West Ridge.
Cloudland moves into the consolation game on Monday at 6p against Unaka. The Lady ‘Landers will also be traveling for the opening round of the Region 1-A tournament.
Both teams made the other work for their points on Tuesday night.
Kendall Birchfield opened the scoring with a 3-pointer before NG scored the next four points. Ella Benfield pushed CHS back in the lead, but NG bookmarked a Ryan Turbyfill bucket to take a 9-7 lead into the second stanza.
Turbyfill hit a 3-pointer to open the second quarter as the teams swapped shots and the lead throughout the quarter. After a Birchfield trey to take a 16-14 advantage, North Greene scored the last three points of the half to take a 17-16 lead into the locker room.
The back-and-forth continued in the second half.
Ella Benfield and Izabella Christman combined for four straight points to give CHS a 20-16 lead early in the quarter. Turbyfill and Benfield answered NG shots with the game tied at 24-24, but North Greene scored five quick points to take a 29-24 lead after three complete quarters.
In the fourth quarter, North Greene pushed the lead to nine points before Benfield snapped a 6-0 run. Cloudland continued to battle but was unable to make a late run against the Lady Huskies.
Turbyfill had 12 points to pace Cloudland, while Christman and Benfield had eight points apiece. Birchfield had six points.
Sonya Wagner led North Greene with 12 points, while Hannah Miller had 11 points.
