Saturday Round-up: Warriors Sees Season End

Sullivan East 14, Happy Valley 3
The Warriors were unable to hold onto an early lead to extend their season.

Happy Valley saw the season come to a close with a loss to the Patriots in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon.

HV jumped out early as Andrew Little scored off a Colby Chausee triple and Lucas Chausee hit a double to right field that scored C. Chuasee to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.

Alex Lunceford scored for the Warriors in the top of the second off a Little single as HV pushed the advantage to 3-0.

The Patriots, however, battled back.

Sullivan East scored six runs in the bottom of the third and added eight more in the fourth to take control and the win.

Little, C. Chausee, and L. Chausee each had a hit and an RBI for HV, while Andrew Clawson added a hit.

Unicoi County 6, Elizabethton 4
The Cyclones were unable to complete a rally Saturday night.

Elizabethton had the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to drive it in.

Elizabethton will play in the Loser’s Bracket final on Monday at 6p at Joe O’Brien Field.

After the first two innings went scoreless, Unicoi got on the board first with three runs in the top of the third. The Cyclones, however, got a run back as Bryson Rollins hit a line drive to left field to score Jaden Anderson.

Elizabethton got back on the board in the home side of the fifth as a Rollins double brought Cooper Tipton and Cade Russell across home plate to even the score.

The Blue Devils countered with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Elizabethton, however, didn’t go down without a fight in the bottom of the seventh.

After loading the bases with the game-tying run on first base, Ashton Wilson drew a walk to plate a run, but Elizabethton was unable to extend the inning.

Rollins was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, while Peyton Johnson and Russell each had a hit.

On the mound, Wilson allowed just one earned run on six hits in just over five innings of work.


District 1-AA Softball
Unicoi County 5, Happy Valley 1
The Lady Warriors were unable to rally for another thrilling win on Saturday.

Happy Valley dropped a hard-fought decision in Unicoi and will play in an elimination game on Monday against Sullivan East.

The Lady Warriors had to battle back from an early deficit.

Unicoi jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added a run in the home side of the fourth.

The Lady Blue Devils pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth.

HV, however, continued to fight.

In the sixth inning, Olivia Absher hit a double to right field, and Reagan Street brought Absher across home plate with a single. HV was unable to add another run in the inning and was unable to capitalize on two singles to open the top of the seventh.

Blakelee Ollis tallied two hits for HV, while Maddie Lingerfelt, Cierra Southerland, Allie Grindstaff, Street, and Absher each added a hit.

Abby Holt had a strong showing in the pitching circle as she struck out nine batters and allowed just four earned runs on seven hits in a complete-game effort.

District 1-A Baseball
North Greene 8, Hampton 0
The upset-minded Bulldogs came up short on Saturday.

Hampton was unable to outduel the top-seeded Huskies at David Crockett. HHS will square off against Sullivan North in an elimination game on Monday night.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a single from Chance Point but were unable to get a run on the board in the frame.

Hampton, however, retired the Huskies in order in the home side of the inning to keep the game scoreless.

North Greene took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added a run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bulldogs continued to fight but were unable to get a run on the board the rest of the way.

Point was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Collin Morgan added a hit.
