Tuesday Round-up: Cloudland, Hampton Take County Wins; Cyclones Move Past West Ridge

Cloudland 51, Happy Valley 8
The Lady ‘Landers used a strong defensive effort to take a county win Tuesday night.

Cloudland jumped out to a 15-2 lead after a quarter of play and held HV to just one point in the second to maintain a 29-3 advantage.

From there, CHS was able to limit the Lady Warriors for the win.

Makinna Shell had 17 points to lead the way for Cloudland, while Makenzie Street had nine points. Abriella Jones and Eowyn McCoury had seven and six points, respectively.

Cayden Anderson had six points for Happy Valley.

Hampton 53, Unaka 45
It was a back-and-forth battle on Stoney Creek.

Unaka jumped out to a 13-3 lead to open the game and maintained a 15-8 advantage after a quarter of play. Hampton, however, battled back to tie the game at the half at 25-25.

The teams continued to trade shots in the second half as the third quarter ended in a 33-33 stalemate before Hampton was able to take the lead in the closing minutes and hold off the Lady Rangers.

Piper Helle had 16 points to lead Hampton. Hannah Smith added 10 points. Faye Carrico tossed in nine points.

Michelle Shields had 19 points to lead Unaka, while Lauren Lund had eight points. Kalli Shepard finished with seven points.

West Ridge 72, Elizabethton 64 OT
The Lady Cyclones came up short in an OT thriller on Tuesday.

The teams traded shots from the opening tip as West Ridge held an 11-8 lead after eight minutes of play, and the Lady Cyclones maintained a 25-24 advantage at the half.

In the second half, it was much the same as the teams continued to go back and forth and ended regulation tied at 60-60. West Ridge outscored EHS 12-4 in overtime to take the win.

Kayelyn Nave had 16 points to lead Elizabethton, while Rylee May had 14 points. Reagan May and Jamira Smalls had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Carter Jones led West Ridge with 27 points.

Boys
Hampton 81, Unaka 40
The Bulldogs took full control in the second quarter.

After using a late run to end the first quarter with a 27-16 lead, Hampton outscored Unaka 33-6 in the second.

The Rangers continued to battle but were unable to rally in the second half.

Chase Davenport had 19 points to lead the way, while Tyler Blevins had 18 points. Jayden Nave scored 13 points.

John Hardin led Unaka with 12 points. Mason Wilson and Austin Lambert added eight and seven points, respectively.

Elizabethton 59, West Ridge 48
Elizabethton used a big third quarter to take control on Tuesday night.

After a back-and-forth first half, EHS outscored the Wolves 20-7 in the third quarter to pull away and roll to the win.

Andrew Barnett had 18 points to pace EHS. Nathan Bailey scored 15 points, while Hudson Pate added 10 points.

Cloudland 44, Happy Valley 32
The ‘Landers won a tight county battle on Tuesday night.

Cloudland jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter, but HV battled back to trim the lead to 21-17 at the half. CHS outscored the Warriors 15-7 in the third quarter to extend the lead.

In the fourth quarter, Cloudland was able to hold off the Warriors for the win.

Uriah Jarrett had 12 points to lead the way, while Cooper Smith scored 11 points. Bryce Birchfield and Devin Balado had eight and seven points, respectively.

Ron Paul Parker had 12 points for the Warriors. Lane Parker and Zack Rose had five points apiece.
