Hampton took care of business on Friday night.
The Bulldogs opened the season with a 46-24 victory over Avery County (N.C.) in Newland. Hampton held a 26-0 lead at the half.
Hampton opened the scoring through the air as Brycen Blevins found Alden Cordell for a 58-yard pass. Blevins connected with Logan Hughes for a 28-yard throw, and Anthony Orton added the 2-point conversion as HHS held a 14-0 lead after a quarter of play.
Kaden Jones broke into the end zone midway through the second on a two-yard touchdown to get Hampton back on the board. The Bulldogs ended the half as Cordell and Blevins connected for a 15-yard touchdown as HHS took a 26-0 lead into the half.
After Tantem Webb scored on a short run for Avery, Jones caught a 16-yard pass from Blevins to cap an 11-play drive for Hampton.
Brody Lambert had a 77-yard kickoff return, and Blevins had a 15-yard touchdown run to account for the final Hampton score in the fourth quarter.
Blevins was 9-of-16 for 253 yards and four touchdowns through the air and added seven carries for 44 yards on the ground. Cordell had three catches for 103 yards, while Jones added 92 yards on three catches.
Eli Tester had 62 yards rushing on six carries. Rylan Jones added 45 yards.
