Bulldogs Run Past South Greene

Hampton wasn’t going to let South Greene have the upper hand for the third year in a row.

The Bulldogs used a relentless rushing attack and held the Rebels to negative offensive yardage to take a 37-0 victory over SG on Friday night on Rebel Hill.

With the win, Hampton improves to 6-0 on the season and will win the Region 1-2A Championship outright with a win over Cumberland Gap later this year. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing streak to the Rebels as well.

It was all Hampton from the opening drive.

Levi Lunsford and the Bulldogs marched down the field on the first drive of the game, and Lunsford capped 10 carries with a short touchdown run to give Hampton an 8-0 lead.

The Bulldogs held SG to a three-and-out as Hampton held the advantage after a quarter of play.

Early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs got back on the board as Lunsford capped off a 79-yard drive with a short touchdown.

Another three-and-out by the Rebels set up a 90-yard drive for the Bulldogs that saw Lunsford score his third touchdown of the night to give HHS a 22-0 lead at the half.

The second half saw Hampton continue to dominate.

The Bulldogs recovered a South Greene fumble, and Hampton capitalized when Dylan Trivett hit Chance Point for an 11-yard score.

Hampton added to the lead in the fourth with Lunsford’s fourth touchdown of the night to cap the scoring.

Lunsford had 32 carries for 158 yards, while Trivett was 7-of-8 passing for 60 yards with 31 rushing yards.

Jonathan Greenwell had seven carries for 47 yards to go with four catches and 43 receiving yards.

Dominique Burleson added 44 yards on the ground for Hampton.

As a team, Hampton had 344 total offensive yards – 290 of which came from the rushing attack.

The Bulldog defense held South Greene to -8 offensive yards.
