Once Elizabethton got rolling, there was no looking back.
The Cyclones scored 35 unanswered points to take a 42-7 victory over Northview Academy on Homecoming 2023. It was also the first game of the season at Citizens Bank Stadium.
Elizabethton remained undefeated with a mark of 7-0 and improved to 4-0 in Region 1-4A play.
The Cyclones opened the scoring midway through the first quarter as he scored on a one-yard run to give EHS a 7-0 lead after a quarter of play.
Northview, however, answered early in the second as Mason Phillips scored from eight yards out to even things up.
Rhett Slagle and Griffin broke the stalemate on fourth down later in the quarter as the duo connected for a 38-yard touchdown.
That allowed EHS to take a 14-7 halftime lead.
The Cyclones shook off the slow start in the second half.
Luke Whaley caught a 24-yard pass from Slagle for the touchdown to open the half. The Cyclone defense helped set the tone as they stymied Northview in the second half and helped set up a Zeth Mullins seven-yard run, and an 81-yard passing touchdown to Whaley from Slage in the final minute of the third.
After Eli Blevins nabbed an interception early in the fourth, Mullins scored on a short run to account for the scoring.
Slagle finished the game going 16-of-24 for 280 yards passing, while Griffin ended the game with seven catches for 123 yards.
Whaley had 124 receiving yards on five catches.
