The fourth quarter belonged to the Cyclones.
Elizabethton pulled away in the final eight minutes to take a 62-48 victory over South Greene in the Region 1-AA Quarterfinals Saturday night inside Treadway Gymnasium.
The Cyclones advance to take on Greeneville on Tuesday night on the road with a spot in the Region 1-AA Championship game as well as a substate berth on the line.
Saturday night was a hard-fought battle.
The Rebels took an early lead and held a 13-10 advantage after a quarter of play. Elizabethton outscored SG 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 23-20 lead into the locker room at half.
In the third quarter, the teams continued to trade shots as South Greene was able to trim a point off the Elizabethton lead.
The Cyclones, however, took full control in the fourth.
Elizabethton doubled up the Rebels behind the play of Seth Carter – who went seven-of-eight from the free-throw line in the quarter.
EHS outscored SG 24-12 to pull away and keep the season alive.
Carter finished with 24 points with 11 points coming in the fourth quarter.
Jake Roberts added 15 points for the Cyclone cause. Nicholas Wilson and William Willocks had eight points apiece.
