Elizabethton storms by William Blount in nonconference action

Elizabethton found another gear in the second quarter on Friday night.

The Cyclones scored 35 points and never looked back in a 56-8 victory over Class 6A William Blount in non-conference action on Friday night. It was the 21st straight win for the Elizabethton program.


Bryson Rollins got things going early for EHS.

Rollins scored off a one-yard run two minutes into the game and then added a six-yard run later in the quarter to give Elizabethton a 14-0 lead after a quarter of play.

On the opening play of the second quarter, Rollins scored on a one-yard run and the Sean Smithdeal extra point pushed the advantage to 21-0.

Parker Hughes and the Elizabethton defense got into the scoring act a few minutes later as Hughes nabbed a Governor pass and returned it 61 yards for the pick-six.

On the next Elizabethton drive, Nate Stephens went over the top to score on a one-yard run to push the lead to 35-0. Rollins ended the half on a strong note with a three-yard pass to Hughes and a 31-yard pass to Braden Holly as Elizabethton held a 49-0 lead at the half.

LaDarian Avery capped the Cyclone scoring in the fourth quarter with a one-yard run.
Rollins finished 9-of-11 for 159 yards and also added 96 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Hughes tallied 108 yards on four catches and finished with 231 total yards, while Stephens finished with seven carries for 74 yards.

Jake Roberts had one catch for 31 yards. Avery had seven carries for 38 yards.

As a team, Elizabethton finished with 413 total offensive yards.

Defensively, Caleb Johnson recorded two sacks, while Grayson Hatfield added another.

The Cyclones are looking for a game next Friday as Union County was forced to cancel their matchup due to COVID-19.
